The Cyclones were unable to keep pace with a hot bat on Tuesday night.

Elizabethton came up short in a 12-3 decision to Unicoi County in Three Rivers Action at O’Brien Field.

EHS struck first in the bottom of the second when Corey Russell scored off a Jesse Carr hit. The Blue Devils, however, found their offensive groove in the next frame as they answered with five runs.

Neither team was able to get a base runner on until the top of the fifth inning, and Unicoi took advantage by adding two runs to the board. After Unicoi extended the lead to 9-1, the EHS bats came alive as Drew Wetzel and Ethan Eggleston scored for the Cyclones to trim the deficit. The Blue Devils added three runs in the top of the seventh.

In the home side of the seventh, Elizabethton loaded the bases, but three straight strikeouts ended the EHS rally.

Eggleston was 2-for-3 at the plate for EHS, while freshman Corey Russell went 1-for-2. John Lee and Carr were 1-for-3. Wetzel added a hit for the Cyclone cause.

Elijah Andrews was handed the loss on the mound.
