The Elizabethton baseball team got off to a fast start and never looked back.

The Cyclones claimed the Region 1-AA Title with a 9-4 victory over Greeneville on Wednesday at Thomas Stadium in Johnson City. With the win, EHS will host the loser of Pigeon Forge and Gibbs in Friday’s Sectional action.

The Cyclones wasted no time in getting the scoring started.

Evan Perkins hit a line drive to center to push Ethan Eggleston and Ryan Wetzel across home plate. Colten Miller crossed home plate off a Matthew Dailey single to give EHS a 3-0 lead going to the bottom of the opening inning. After a scoreless second inning, Evan Carter scored on a Greeneville error to push the lead to 4-0.

Any thoughts of a comeback were quickly erased by the Cyclones in the fourth.
Nick Johnson walked in for a run, and Perkins pushed Eggleston, Wetzel and Corey Russell across the plate with a double. That gave EHS an 8-0 lead after four complete.

After Wetzel scored in the top of the sixth, the Green Devils plated two runs in the sixth and seventh, but that was as close as they could get to the Elizabethton lead.

Perkins had a monster day at the plate as he went 4-for-4 with six RBI. Wetzel added two hits, while Eggleston, Carter, Johnson, and Dailey had a hit apiece.

Carter pitched up the win on the mound as he allowed just two runs on six hits with four strikeouts.
