Lady Cyclones rally to win District 1-AA title

Sullivan East had an upset on their mind. The Lady Cyclones had to rally to derail those thoughts.

Elizabethton rallied from a double-digit deficit to claim the District 1-AA tournament title with a 69-63 win over the Lady Patriots in the game.

After a back-and-forth battle in the first quarter, Sullivan East took a 24-22 lead into the second quarter. The Lady Patriots quickly extended the lead in the second quarter, and held a 15-point

lead with just over four minutes to play in the half. However, Emily Schubert and Emily Kiser hit big shots to trim the lead. Kayla Marosites drained a 3-pointer late, but SE maintained a 44-38 halftime lead.

The second half saw Elizabethton charging back.

Kelci Marosites scored the first five Elizabethton points of the third quarter, while sister Kayla hit a 3-pointer to cut the gap to one point. The teams traded points as EHS tried to get back in front before a Ke. Marosites jumper and Ka. Marosites added a 3-pointer to give the Lady Cyclones a 57-53 lead heading to the final quarter.

Schubert and Ka. Marosites pushed the lead to nine points to open the fourth quarter. From there, Elizabethton held the Lady Patriots to secure the district title.

Ka. Marosites tallied 26 points to lead Elizabethton, and Ke. Marosites and Schubert had 15 points apiece. Kiser added 11 points – including three 3-pointers.

Sullivan East’s Megan Addison had 16 points while Kara Stafford added 12 points for the Lady Patriots.
