Happy Monday morning!
I don’t know about you, but this seems to be a typical Monday. However, it will be worth the wait as we have a gem of a game tonight in Elizabethton as Hampton will visit the Cyclones.
In case you missed the first meeting, the Cyclones used a last second (literally a shot in the final second) by Austin Cornett to take a victory in Hampton a couple weeks ago. Tonight, looks poised to see two teams really hitting their stride to kick off the week.
The Bulldogs led by Stanley Valentine and Coby Jones will be looking to even the score with Tyler Nichols and the Cyclones. The key to the game will be to withstand the runs that both teams went on during the previous meeting. The winner of the matchup could very easily be the team that fended off a late run.
In the girls’ game, Elizabethton will look to continue the momentum from their tournament winning run at the Carolina Invitational in Charleston. To say the Lady Cyclones were impressive is an understatement, especially in the victory over Hoover (Ala.). They will host a Hampton squad that regains a key role player in Alexis Bowers and also have some momentium on their side. However, the Lady Bulldogs have a tall task of slowing down a strong offensive attack, and that will be the key.
This week has a few more eyecatching matchups including a busy week for Cloudland. The ‘Landers will host Unaka on Tuesday, host University High on Friday then go to Happy Valley on Saturday. Other notable games include Hampton traveling to North Greene on Friday, Friday’s Unaka at South Greene matchup and Tuesday’s Elizabethton at Johnson County matchup.
It is the start of a busy week, but should be a great week for basketball in the county.
