It was a near upset for the ladies from Stoney Creek.

After a last-second defeat from Unicoi County on Friday, Volunteer had to pull out all the stops to fend off Unaka 65-54 in the opening game for day two of the Johnson City Honda Classic held at Daniel Boone.
The Lady Falcons also received help from Savannah Felgemacher, who returned from injury, but the Lady Rangers kept the AAA school on their toes with a 17-point outing from Hannah Tipton, 14 points from Cheyenne Drew and 10 from Katlyn Weaver.
Sierra Wright had four points for the Lady Rangers while Katlyn Burrow, Madison Ensor, Ashley Doss and Sarah Tipton tacked on two apiece.
The Lady Rangers will open back up tourney play on Monday in the 3 p.m. tip-off against Morristown East in consolation bracket play. MoEast fell in their contest on Saturday to Dobyns-Bennett 65-45.
