Preston Benfield had a banner night.
The senior had 34 points to carry Cloudland to an 83-64 victory over University High on Tuesday in Sonny Smith Gymnasium.
The Lady ‘Landers took a 63-33 victory over the Lady Bucs.
Benfield and the ‘Landers set the tone early.
Cloudland jumped out to a 10-0 lead over the first four minutes. The Bucs, however, answered with a late run to pull within 18-14 at the end of the first quarter.
Benfield went on a 10-2 run of his own to start the second, and that propelled CHS to take a 44-25 lead at the half.
From there, it was all Cloudland.
Benfield’s 34 points was a game-high. Robert Leeper had 22 points, while Noah Arnett, Malachi Benfield and Thomas Hicks had eight points apiece.
The Lady ‘Landers saw UH take an early 4-2 lead. However, Trinity Vines kicked off a 14-0 run that gave CHS a 17-7 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
Shian Strickland and Vines hit back-to-back shots to push the lead to 17 points. From there, Cloudland maintained the advantage as they took a 36-16 advantage at the half.
The Lady ‘Landers were never challenged in the second half – including ending the game on a 15-1 run.
Vines had 18 points to lead CHS, while Strickland had 15 points. Stacia Wilson had 11 points for the ‘Landers.
