Hampton punched a ticket to the Region 1-A Championship on Friday night.
The Bulldogs captured a 4-1 victory over Washburn in the opening round of the Region 1-A tournament at Washburn. With the win, Hampton advanced to Saturday’s Region 1-A title against University High at Noon.
The winner of the title game will earn the Region 1-A Championship and a home sectional series, while the loser will play the winner of Saturday’s Cosby and Washburn contest with the season on the line.
After a pair of scoreless innings, the Bulldogs struck in the third.
Brock Shelby scored off an Eli Henson single, and then Colby Clark scored off a Washburn error as HHS took a 2-0 lead.
Washburn got a run back in the bottom of the fourth to trim the Hampton lead to 2-1.
The Bulldogs struck again in the fifth.
Clark hit a single to left field that scored Shelby, and then Clark scored on a wild pitch to give Hampton a 4-1 lead.
From there, the Bulldogs were able to keep the Pirates at bay for the win.
Henson was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Clark had a hit and an RBI. Brayden Otey, Cash Royston, and Shelby each had a hit.
Clark picked up the win on the mound as he allowed no earned runs on five hits in five innings of work with nine strikeouts.
