Hampton was unable to answer big plays on Friday night.
The Bulldogs saw Monterey use big plays to take a 40-16 decision over Hampton in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs at JC Campbell Stadium.
It was a defensive battle in the early going as neither team was able to get on the board in the opening 12 minutes.
The Wildcats broke onto the board early in the second as Byron Borjas picked up a backward pass and raced 22 yards for the score to give Monterey the early lead.
Hampton, however, answered as Levi Lunsford scored from 11 yards out as well as added the two-point conversion to give HHS an 8-7 advantage.
Monterey added a score late in the half to take a 13-8 advantage into the half.
Johnathon Greenwell ended the opening drive of the second half by jumping on a loose ball after Monterey had moved inside the Hampton 10.
The Bulldogs were forced to punt, but Greenwell struck again on the ensuing possession as he jumped on an errant snap on a punt for a touchdown in the endzone.
Lunsford added the two-point conversion to give HHS a 16-13 lead.
Matthew Montgomery and the Wildcats answered in a hurry as Montgomery scored on the next play from scrimmage with an 80-yard touchdown.
The signal-caller added an 84-yard score on the next Monterey drive to push the lead out.
The Bulldogs continued to battle, but Mason Bowman had a pair of long touchdowns for the Wildcats to secure the win.
Lunsford finished the game with 131 rushing yards.
Bowman led Monterey with 238 yards on 22 carries, while Montgomery had 181 yard on eight carries.
