Hampton came short on Thursday evening.
The Bulldogs dropped a hard-fought 5-0 decision to University High in the District 1-A Baseball Championship game at David Crockett.
Hampton will open Region 1-A play on Monday at either Hancock County or Washburn.
“University High has a good baseball team,” Hampton Head Coach Nicholas Perkins said. “We competed, but could not get anything going against their lefty. We now transition to Regional play at the Hancock Indians or Washburn Pirates out of District 2.”
It was a heavyweight title fight from the start.
Caleb Royston reached base in the top of the first, but Hampton was unable to move the runner.
UH got on the board first in the bottom of the second to take a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the third, Chance Point reached base with a two-out single, and Morgan Lyons drew a walk to get runners on first and second. UH, however, was able to prevent Hampton from scoring.
The defensive battle continued until the Bucs plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Hampton was unable to get a rally going in the seventh.
Point went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Royston had a strong performance on the mound as he allowed just four earned runs on six hits.
