Hampton took care of business in a big way.

The Bulldogs jumped out early and never looked back en route to an 87-55 victory over Jellico in the Region 1-A Quarterfinals in Hampton on Saturday night.

With the win, Hampton heads to Cosby for Tuesday’s Region 1-A Semifinal with a spot in the Region 1-A Championship game and a substate berth on the line.

It was all Bulldogs in the early going.

Parker Henry and Garrett Vines knocked the game’s opening shots to spark a 9-0 Hampton run to open the game. After Jellico broke onto the board, Morgan Lyons and Michael Harrison hit baskets to propel Hampton to a 10-2 run to end the quarter to take a 21-7 advantage.

In the second quarter, Lyons opened the scoring with an old-fashioned 3-point play, and the Bulldogs quickly pushed the lead to 20 points. Jellico was able to make a quick run of their own, but Hampton reeled off a 6-0 run to take a 40-20 lead into the half.

Conor Burleson and Lyons helped Hampton set the tone to open the third quarter as Hampton quickly pushed the lead out.

From there, it was all Bulldogs as Hampton was never threatened in the second half

Lyons led the way with 16 points for Hampton. Harrison and Logan Whitehead had 13 and 12 points, respectively, while Henry and Burleson added 10 points apiece.

Vines finished with nine points.

Jordan King had a game-high 31 points, 18 of which came in the final eight minutes, to lead Jellico.
