Hampton came up short on Friday night.
The Bulldogs dropped a hard-fought 27-14 decision to Class 5A Daniel Boone in Gray to cap the regular season. Hampton finishes the regular season with a 7-2 record and will host Monterey in the first round of the playoffs.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Trailblazers got on the board first with a 41-yard field goal.
Hampton answered as Conor Jones nabbed an interception and returned it to the Boone 5, and then scored on a one-yard run. Michael Harrison’s kick gave Hampton a 7-3 lead.
However, the Trailblazers answered as Braiden Blankenship raced 5 yards for a touchdown to regain a 10-7 lead.
The Bulldogs saw Chance Point return the ensuing kickoff 99 yards, but the play was called back by a block in the block.
DB scored with nine seconds left n the half as Rylan Trout caught a Luke Jenkins pass for a 39-yard score to take a 17-7 lead into the locker room at half.
Daniel Boone pushed the lead to 27-7 in the third quarter, but Hampton battled back as Levi Lunsford scored from 19 yards out to trim the lead to 27-17 early in the fourth.
The Bulldogs, however, were unable to trim any further into the lead.
Morgan Lyons had 12 carries for 52 yards to lead the Hampton offense, while Lunsford had 44 yards on nine carries.
