Bulldogs, Lady Bulldogs pull past North

Hampton took care of business on the road Friday night.

The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs picked up District 1-A victories at Sullivan North in Kingsport as the Hampton boys picked up a 59-46 win and the Hampton girls pulled away for a 45-33 victory.

The Bulldogs had to overcome a first-half deficit in the boys’ game.

The Raiders jumped out to a 15-9 advantage after a quarter of play, and maintained it for the opening minutes of the second quarter. Hampton, however, answered the bell and ended the half on a run to take a three-point lead into the half.

In the third quarter, North battled back to tie the game. Hampton answered with a 15-2 run take gave HHS a double-digit lead. From there, it was all Bulldogs

Jordan Bentley had 14 points to pace Hampton. Morgan Lyons tossed in 11 points, while Matt Hughes added nine points.

In the girls’ game, it was a defensive battle in the first half.

Hampton held a slim 9-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, and maintained an 18-16 advantage at the half.

The Lady Bulldogs, however, turned up the defensive attack in the second half. Hampton limited North to just four points in the third quarter and two points in the fourth to pull away and cruise to the win.

Stephanie Campbell and Leanne Guinn had 10 points apiece to lead Hampton.
