Bulldogs, Lady Bulldogs take wins over Sullivan North

The Hampton boys basketball battled back from an early deficit and never looked back.

The Bulldogs pulled away to take an 81-57 victory over Sullivan North in District 1-A action on Friday night in Hampton. In the girls’ game, Hampton picked up a 38-25 victory.

The opening minutes of the boys game saw Sullivan North jumped out to an 8-1 lead. However, Hampton responded in a big way as the Bulldogs used a 15-0 run to take the lead.

HHS maintained an 18-11 advantage after eight minutes of play and then held a double-digit lead at the half. A Hampton run at the start of the third and the fourth quarter helped ice the game.

Jordan Bentley had 13 points to lead the Bulldogs. Conor Jones and Caleb Oaks had 11 points apiece, while Matt Hughes and Izaak Hill each had nine points.

In the girls’ game, Hampton jumped out early and never looked back.

The Lady Bulldogs opened the game with a 10-0 run and was never threatened after that. HHS maintained a 16-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and held North to just two points in the second quarter to maintain a 23-9 at the break.

Hazen Brummitt led Hampton with 15 points. Hannah Collins and Linsey Jenkins had 10 and six points, respectively.
