A strong fourth quarter helped Hampton get a big District 1-A win on Friday night.
The Bulldogs pulled away in the final eight minutes and never looked back as they captured a 51-38 victory over North Greene. In the girls’ game, North Greene took a 62-24 victory over the Lady Bulldogs.
The boys’ game proved to be a heavyweight battle.
Neither team was able to get separation and NG held a 14-10 lead at the end of the first quarter, and the second quarter was much the same as Hampton trimmed the NG lead to one point at the half.
In the third quarter, points were hard to come by and Hampton held a one-point advantage heading to the final quarter. The Bulldogs took full control in the final stanza as they outscored the visiting Huskies 22-8 to secure the win.
Rocky Croy led the way with 15 points, while Caleb Oaks had 13 points. Jordan Bentley and Matt Hughes had nine and seven points, respectively.
In the girls’ game, the Lady Bulldogs were unable to overcome a slow start.
North Greene jumped out to a 23-6 advantage after a quarter of play. Hampton continued to fight but was unable to keep pace with a torrid NG attack as the Lady Huskies held a 43-12 halftime advantage.
From there, Hampton was unable to mount a comeback against their District 1-A foe.
