Bulldogs Unable To Rally Past North Greene



Hampton fell short in a title bout Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs were unable to complete a rally as they dropped a 71-58 decision to North Greene in the District 1-A Championship game in Baileyton.

Hampton will open the Region 1-A tournament as the No. 2 seed from District 1-A and will host Jellico on Saturday night in the quarterfinals.

The Bulldogs overcame a slow start in the early going.

The Huskies jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the opening minutes, but Hampton answered with a quick run to pull within three points at the end of the first.

The Bulldogs continued to battle, but a North Greene run pushed the lead to 36-25 at the break.

Hampton’s Garrett Vines got hot in the third quarter with three 3-pointers in the frame as the Bulldogs used a 16-4 run to pull back within 47-44 with just over two minutes left in the quarter.

The home-standing Huskies, however, ended the quarter on run to end the quarter to take a 56-49 lead into the final stanza.

Hampton continued to fight but was unable to make a late run to close the gap.

Vines led Hampton with 21 points in the game, while Morgan Lyons had 11 points. Michael Harrison and Conor Burleson had five points apiece.

Chris Schultz had 32 points to lead North Greene.
