Cloudland girls’ basketball will have a new face leading the program next season.

Head Coach Lucas Andrews has been reassigned within the athletic department after leading the program for two seasons, while Mike Lunsford will take over the helm of the program. Cloudland principal Lisa Benfield confirmed the move on Friday afternoon.

Andrews will be an assistant on Gary Harrison’s staff for boys’ basketball next season.

Andrews took over the program after Matt Birchfield stepped down in April 2015. During his tenure as head coach, the Lady ‘Landers went 34-27 including a 20-12 campaign this past season.

Cloudland’s season ended with a loss in the Region 1-A semifinals to defending state champion South Greene. Cloudland’s four conference losses were to the Lady Rebels and Hampton – both of whom are in substate this weekend.

Prior to accepting the head coaching job, Andrews served as an assistant on Matt Birchfield’s staff.

Lunsford returned to Roan Mountain this past season as football coach. Prior to that, he had been at Hampton leading the Bulldogs to a dominant run on the gridiron. Lunsford has previously coached girls’ basketball at Cloudland.
