Cloudland used a second-quarter run and never looked back.
The Lady ‘Landers rolled to a 47-28 victory over Cosby in the Region 1-A semifinals at Walters State on Monday.
With the win, Cloudland advanced to the Region 1-A Championship game where they will take on North Greene on Wednesday.
Cloudland also secured a berth in Saturday’s sectional round.
Points were hard to come by in the first quarter.
Jasmine Birchfield and Gracie Freeman hit 3-pointers for CHS in the opening minutes, while Birchfield added a jumper in the quarter. Cosby, however, took a 9-8 advantage into the second quarter.
In the second quarter, Cloudland took control with a 12-3 run to end the half with big shots from Mandy Benfield, Kenzie Birchfield and Heaven Caraway. That run gave CHS a 22-14 lead at the half as the Lady ‘Landers held Cosby to just five points in the quarter.
Cloudland continued to hold the momentum in the third quarter.
The Lady ‘Landers used a balanced attack to help keep the Lady Eagles at bay, and then left no doubt in the final eight minutes by outscoring Cosby 14-5.
J. Birchfield had 13 points to lead the way for Cloudland, while K. Birchfield finished with 12 points – six of which came in the fourth quarter to help secure the win. Benfield had eight points. Freeman scored seven points in the win.
