Cloudland checked off one of their preseason goals on Friday night.
The ‘Landers claimed the Region 1-A title with a 50-20 Homecoming victory over Jellico at Orr Field. With the win, Cloudland improves to 7-1 on the season and finished region play with a perfect 3-0 mark.
It is the third straight Region 1-A title for the ‘Landers.
After the visiting Blue Devils took a 6-0 lead on the opening drive, but Cloudland responded when Josh Blair scored on a four-yard touchdown run. Jellico answered back on the next drive as a short pass gave JHS a 14-6 advantage going to the second quarter.
Jordan Coffey scored on a short run and the conversion evened the score at 14-14.
Cloudland’s Hunter Blair gave the ‘Landers their first lead of the night with five-yard touchdown run. Coffey struck again to close the first half scoring with a six-yard touchdown run. That gave CHS a 26-14 advantage at the half.
The ‘Landers left no doubt in the second quarter.
Malachi Benfield found Triston Lacy for a 40-yard touchdown and the Benfield added a short touchdown run. The ‘Lander defense forced Jellico off the field as CHS extended the lead to 42-14 going to the fourth quarter.
Josh Blair added a 14-yard touchdown in the fourth to wrap up the Cloudland scoring.
Coffey finished with 139 yards to pace Cloudland.
The ‘Landers are set to host Johnson County next Friday night.
