Cloudland checked an item off the goal list on Friday night.

The ‘Landers rolled to a 38-12 Region 1-A win over Jellico on the road.

With the win, Cloudland clinched at least a share of the Region 1-A crown and the No. 1 seed for the playoffs with home-field advantage through the first three rounds.

Cloudland can win the Region 1-A title outright with a win over North Greene.

The ‘Landers set the tone early as Gage McKinney scored on a 23-yard run to give CHS an 8-0 lead a minute and a half into the game.

The Cloudland drive was set up at midfield after Jellico failed to recover an onside kick.

After the ‘Lander defense held strong on fourth down at midfield, McKinney scored his second touchdown of the night – this one from eight yards out as CHS pushed the lead to 16-0 after a quarter of play.

The Cloudland defense continued to limit Jellico, and the offense got back on the scoreboard midway through the second as McKinney scored on a 29-yard touchdown.

Jellico got on the board to answer quickly, but McKinney’s fourth touchdown of the night came with 12 seconds remaining in the half as the ‘Landers held a 30-6 lead at the half.

The Blue Devils opened the scoring was Hunter Baird scored on a one-yard run.

Cloudland, however, wasn’t going to allow any thoughts of a comeback as McKinney answered with a nine-yard touchdown.

That gave CHS a 38-12 lead with 6:42 left in the third, and the ‘Lander defense held strong the rest of the way.

McKinney finished with 228 rushing yards, while Kyle Birchfield and Auston Caraway led the Cloudland defense with 13 and 12 tackles, respectively.

Cloudland is set to host Johnson County next week before welcoming North Greene to Orr Field in the regular season finale.
