Cloudland came up short on Friday night.
The ‘Landers dropped 38-22 to Cosby in a Region 1-A tilt in the first game at Orr Field this season as well as the first game on the new turf.
It was a back-and-forth battle.
Landon Barnette capped off a strong opening drive with a four-yard run and added the two-point conversion as Cloudland took an early 8-0 lead.
Coby answered with a Gage McCarty 16-yard touchdown before McCarty added an eight-yard touchdown. David Baker added a 3-yard touchdown to give Cosby a 14-8 lead.
Cloudland answered with a statement drive that saw Grayson Cole score from eight yards out, and he added the two-point conversion as CHS took a 16-14 lead.
The Eagles, however, struck again late in the quarter as Baker scored on an 18-yard run and Cosby held a 22-16 lead at halftime.
Cloudland kept battling in the second half.
After Cosby extended the lead, Cloudland answered as Cole scored on a short run as the ‘Landers trimmed the gap to 30-22.
Cosby, however, scored on a 13-yard run from Mason Williams to secure the win.
Cole led CHS with 117 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries, while Barnette had 17 carries for 75 yards and a score.
