It was a split night of action on Tuesday inside Sonny Smith Gymnasium between a pair of county foes.
The Lady ‘Landers edged HV 49-41 in varsity action, while the Warriors took a 64-43 win over the homestanding ‘Landers.
In the girls’ game, it was a tight battle from the opening tip.
Cloudland took a 15-11 first-quarter lead sparked by a pair of 3-pointers from Kenzie Birchfield. Shalyn Whitson tallied six points in the second for HV, but CHS held on to a 28-23 lead at the half.
The second half was much the same as neither team could get separation as CHS held on for the win.
Birchfield led Cloudland with 16 points, while Jasmine Birchfield had 15 points in the win.
Whitson had a game-high 26 points to lead HV, while Olivia Absher had six points.
In the boys’ game, Happy Valley pulled away in the third quarter.
Noah Stevens tallied eight points in the first quarter to push HV to a 14-10 advantage. Cloudland continued to battle with shots from Conor Birchfield, Elijah Blair and Caleb Sluder, but HV maintained a 29-26 lead at the break.
The third quarter was the tipping point. Dylan Willis and Stevens erupted for 21 combined points in the quarter, and the Warriors held Cloudland to just four points in the frame. From there, it was all Happy Valley.
Stevens finished with 28 points, while Willis had 23 points in the win for Happy Valley. Blair led Cloudland with 15 points, while Hunter Shell had seven points.
