The Cloudland basketball programs took care of business on Friday night.

The Lady ‘Landers rolled to a 49-20 victory over Sullivan North in District 1-A play, while the ‘Landers took a 53-52 win over the Raiders.

For the Lady ‘Landers, six players reached the scorebook in the first quarter as CHS held a 12-4 advantage after a quarter of play.

Trinity Vines added four points in the second stanza, but Cloudland was unable to get anything else going as they maintained a 17-6 lead at the half after holding North to just two points.

In the third quarter, Abbey Gouge and Vines helped spark the CHS offense as the Lady ‘Landers extended the lead by outscoring North 22-7 in the frame. From there, Cloudland held the Lady Raiders at bay to secure the win.

Vines had a game-high 13 points, while Gouge tallied seven points. Leah Birchfield scored six points for the Cloudland cause.

In the boys’ game, Cloudland had to hold on late for the win.

Robert Leeper scored seven points in the opening quarter to help set the tone, but the Raiders countered the Cloudland offensive attack as the teams were tied at 18-18 going to the second.

The ‘Landers, however, found some breathing room in the second by outscoring SN 13-5 – including six points from Leeper. That gave Cloudland a 31-23 lead at the half.

After the teams played even in the third quarter, North crept back into the game. At the end, Cloudland saw Josh Blair and Leeper hit shots to secure the win.

Leeper had 23 points to lead all scorers for Cloudland. Dillon Johnson and Jordan Coffey had nine points apiece, and Blair added seven points.
