Cloudland takes two at Sullivan North

The Cloudland basketball programs picked up a pair of district wins on Friday night.

The Lady ‘Landers cruised to a 51-19 victory over Sullivan North, while the ‘Landers pulled away in the final quarter to take a 52-37 win over the Raiders.

In the boys’ game, Cloudland came out of the gate hot.

The ‘Landers used seven Josh Blair points and six from Hunter Shell to take a 17-7 lead after eight minutes of play. Over the second quarter, CHS maintained the double-digit lead at the half with buckets from Robert Leeper.

The Raiders, however, didn’t go down quietly.

Sullivan North held Cloudland to just four points over the third quarter. That allowed the homestanding Raiders to close within four going to the fourth quarter. Cloudland saw five players score points, while holding the Raiders to just one two field goals over the final eight minutes to secure the win.

Shell and Leeper finished with 15 points apiece, and Blair added 10 points. Conner Birchfield had seven points in the win.

In the girls’ game, points were at a premium in the opening quarter.

Cloudland saw Trinity Vines and Stacia Wilson each score three points as the game was tied at 6-6 going to the second quarter. The Lady ‘Lander offense picked up the pace outscoring SN 19-5 in the stanza as Vines tallied nine points in the quarter.

Cloudland picked up where they left off in the second half.

Megan Lunsford and Kenzie Birchfield scored seven and six points, respectively, in the third quarter while the CHS defense limited the Lady Raiders to just three points in the frame. From there, Cloudland cruised to the win.

Vines and Lunsford finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively to lead Cloudland. Wilson scored seven points, while Jasmine Birchfield had five points.
