Cloudland picked up a pair of wins over Happy Valley on Tuesday night.
The Lady ‘Landers took a 44-33 victory over the Lady Warriors with a strong second quarter, while the ‘Landers pulled away in the second half for a 77-62 victory.
In the girls’ game, Cloudland took an early advantage as Gracie Freeman scored five points in the opening frame to give CHS a 12-7 lead after eight minutes of play. The CHS defense clamped down on HV in the second stanza allowing just one HV point. That allowed Cloudland to take a 26-8 lead into the locker room at the break.
The Lady Warriors, however, didn’t stop from fighting back.
Bailey Ball, Olivia Absher and Adrienne Henegar hit big shots in the third quarter as Happy Valley trimmed six points of the CHS lead. In the fourth, Trinity Vines helped Cloudland secure the game with five points in the quarter.
Cloudland was paced by Vines’ nine points, while Megan Lunsford and Freeman had nine points apiece. Mandy Benfield scored seven points.
Shalyn Whitson and Absher had eight points apiece to lead the Lady Warriors, while Henegar tallied seven points.
In the boys’ game, it was a back-and-forth affair in the first quarter.
Bryce Carter and Dakota Cochran combined for 10 points in the opening frame to give HV a 10-7 lead. Bentley Gilbert and Hunter Shell sparked the CHS offense in the second quarter, but HV answered on the other end as the game entered the half tied at 28-28.
Robert Leeper found his groove in the third quarter. The senior scored 14 points in the opening eight minutes of the second half as Cloudland took a nine-point lead into the final quarter. HV continued to fight in the final quarter, but the ‘Landers slowly added to the lead to preserve the win.
Leeper finished with 23 points to lead Cloudland, while Gilbert added 18 points the ‘Lander cause. Shell finished with 11 points.
Carter led Happy Valley with 18 points. Harmon had 16 points, and Dylan Willis added 11 points.
