-

Elizabethton came up short in the District 1-3A consolation game on Tuesday night.

The Cyclones were unable to answer a quick Unicoi County run to end the third quarter as EHS fell 67-58 to the Blue Devils at Viking Hall. Elizabethton is set to open the Region 1-3A tournament on Saturday on the road at Greeneville.

The Cyclones jumped out early to take a 14-7 lead after a quarter of play, and maintained a 25-22 lead at the half.

As the teams swapped shots and the lead in the third, Justius Wallin’s bucket with 1:43 left in the third gave EHS a 40-39 advantage. Jackson Simmons answered on the other end with a 3-pointer and sparked a 5-0 Unicoi run to end the quarter and give the Blue Devils a 44-40 lead after three complete quarters.

Elizabethton continued to battle but was unable to run past Unicoi in the closing stages.

Nathan Bailey led EHS with 22 points, while Hudson Pate added 12 points. Zach Wallin finished with nine points.
