Elizabethton was unable to mount a comeback in the second half Friday night.
The Cyclones dropped a 35-14 decision to Science Hill in the season opener at Citizens Bank Stadium.
Science Hill struck early as Baylor Necessary scored on a 99-yard run in the first quarter to give SH a 7-0 lead. The Hilltoppers pushed the lead to 14-0 in the second quarter as Necessary capped off a quick drive with a two-yard run.
Elizabethton, however, battled back as Justus Wallin finished a 12-play drive with a short run to cut the EHS deficit to 14-7 at the half.
The Cyclones continued to battle in the second half, but the Hilltoppers were able to pull away to take a 28-7 lead into the fourth quarter.
J-Bird Wallin capped off the Elizabethton scoring in the fourth quarter.
J-Bird Wallin had 65 rushing yards, while CJ Mathes had 58 rushing yards.
Necessary led Science Hill with 153 yards and three touchdowns.
