Elizabethton was unable to complete an upset on Friday night despite a hard-fought effort.

The Lady Cyclones dropped a 47-41 road decision to Unicoi County in Erwin, while the Cyclones fell in a tough 62-58 loss to the Blue Devils.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Cyclones went step-for-step with the Lady Blue Devils.

After trailing 8-7 after a quarter of play, Elizabethton used five points from Morgan Headrick and four points from Kaylen Shell to counter the UC attack and take a 20-17 lead into the locker room at half.

The Lady Blue Devils tied the game going into the final quarter. After EHS took a two-point lead in the early going, UC went on a run to take the lead and the win.

Headrick and Shell had 11 points apiece to lead Elizabethton. Abbey Townsend and Destiny Little had six points apiece.

The boys’ game was much like the girls’ game as it was a back-and-forth battle.

After Unicoi took a 17-15 advantage after eight minutes, Elizabethton saw Adam Cornett, Parker Hughes and Evan Perkins hit shots to give the Cyclones a slim two-point lead at the half.

Unicoi edged ahead in the third quarter by outscoring EHS 16-13. Elizabethton, however, continued to battle, but was unable to get back in front in the closing minute.

Perkins had 22 points to lead the way, while Cornett tallied 12 points. Hughes finished with 11 points.
