Cyclones Outlast Crockett County For Program’s First State Tournament Win

Elizabethton had to work overtime on Tuesday evening, but made sure it was worth it.

Zach Curtis scored a goal in the 97′ as the Cyclones captured a 2-1 victory over Crockett County in the quarterfinals of the TSSAA Class AA Soccer Tournament. With the win, EHS advances to Wednesday night’s semifinal against the winner of the Hume-Fogg and Station Camp contest.

The Cavaliers recorded 11 shots compared to Elizabethton’s three in the first half, but the period ended scoreless after 40 minutes of play.

Crockett County broke onto the board in the 48′ as Christopher Cerda recorded a goal as the Cavaliers took a 1-0 lead.

Elizabethton continued to attack and finally broke through in the 72′ as Jackson Miller scored off his right foot for the equalizer. Neither team was able to regain the lead before extra time.

In the closing minutes of extra time, Zack Curtis delivered with an assist by Phillip Lambert to lift EHS to the win with a goal in the 97′.

Tucker Taylor recorded eight saves in the net for Elizabethton.
