The Elizabethton soccer team is atop the region for the first time since 2009.
Elizabethton captured the Region 1-AA Championship with a 3-1 victory over Greeneville on Thursday afternoon in Greeneville. With the win, Elizabethton will host Gibbs on Saturday in the Class AA Sectional with a spot in the state tournament on the line.
The Cyclones struck early.
Thomas Lambert scored in the opening minute to give EHS an early 1-0 lead, and the Cyclones held the advantage at the half.
Greeneville evened things up early in the second half as Remi Elyze-Vital scored in the 52′.
EHS regained the lead in the 58′ as Drake Teague scored a Cyclone goal. The Cyclones added a goal in the 74′ as Zach Curtis found the back of the net.
