Hampton dropped a hard-fought battle on the opening day of the District 1-A Baseball Tournament at David Crockett High School.

The Bulldogs fell 5-2 to North Greene in tournament play.

“From here on, every game is playing for our 2022 postseason lives,” Hampton Head Coach Nicholas Perkins said. “It is what it is. We must come back ready to play.”

The Bulldogs will face Unaka at 7:30p on Tuesday night in an elimination game. The Rangers dropped the first game of the day on Monday 18-0 to University High.

In the nightcap, it was a duel from the first pitch.

Hampton struck first as Morgan Lyons scored off a NG error for the game’s first run, but the Huskies countered with a run of their own in the home side of the frame.

After two scoreless innings, Conor Jones crossed home plate for the Bulldogs. However, North Greene countered with a run of their own in the home side of the frame.

The Huskies took control in the bottom of the sixth as they plated three runs to take a 5-2 lead into the seventh.

Hampton was unable to rally in the final three outs.
Chance Point, Caleb Royston, Collin Morgan, Jones, and Lyons each had a hit.

On the mound, Jonathon Greenwell allowed just four earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts.
