Elizabethton takes two from Happy Valley

Elizabethton took care of business against Happy Valley on Saturday night.

The Lady Cyclones edged out a 55-47 victory over the Lady Warriors, while the Cyclones used a strong second quarter to take a 65-43 win over the Warriors inside Treadway Gymnasium.


In the varsity opener, it was a tight battle from the opening tip.

HV took an early six-point lead before Elizabethton pulled back to three points at the end of the quarter. An Elizabethton run helped the Lady Cyclones take a 30-23 advantage at the half.

Happy Valley, however, battled back to close the EHS lead in the third quarter, but another Lady Cyclone run gave Elizabethton a 38-31 lead going to the final eight minutes.

In the final quarter, Happy Valley used a quick run to close the gap to two points before Renna Lane hit a 3-pointer to snap the HV run. The Lady Cyclones were able to get a little breathing room in the final minutes to secure the win.

Kaylen Shell had 15 points to lead Elizabethton. Lane finished with 14 points, while Morgan Headrick and Kaitlin Bailey had nine and eight points, respectively.

Happy Valley was paced by Jaiden Clark’s 13 points. Kadie Bailey scored nine points, while Olivia Absher had eight points for the Lady Warriors.

In the boys’ game, the opening minutes saw the teams trade shots early on before EHS pulled out to a 14-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. Elizabethton took full control in the second stanza by outscoring HV 25-7 in the frame.

That allowed EHS to take a 39-15 lead into the half.

The Warriors settled down in the second half but were unable to mount a comeback.

Nico Ashley led Elizabethton with 22 points, while Jake Roberts added 12 points. Nicholas Wilson had 10 points for the Cyclones.

Dylan Willis had 17 points to pace the Warriors. Andrew Clawson scored 11 points in the game.
