ETSU extends Coach Lamb’s contract through 2028 season

The East Tennessee State University Athletics Department announced on Friday that Buccaneer football head coach Tre Lamb has been signed through the 2028 season.

“I am extremely humbled and thankful for the commitment from ETSU Athletics and our University,” said Lamb. “We have had a quick turnaround to success and competitiveness in the Southern Conference in 11 short months. We have a vision of building a perennial playoff team and winning big games in our program. The belief from within our program is very strong to deliver championships to Johnson City and Northeast Tennessee. Together we win!”

After already doubling their win total from the last two seasons, ETSU Athletic Director Dr. Richard Sander is excited about the future of Buccaneer football.

We are excited about the progress that has been made under Coach Lamb,” said ETSU Athletic Director Dr. Richard Sander. “We wanted to demonstrate the great work Coach Lamb has done by modifying the terms and extending his contract. We strongly believe in Coach Lamb, his coaching staff and the terrific work they have done in this first season. The future of ETSU Football is exceptionally bright under Tre Lamb.”

The Bucs, who finish the season at VMI on Saturday, are looking to become just the 11th team in program history to win at least seven games in a season. ETSU was ranked as high as No. 21 in the STATS Perform FCS Top 25 Poll, while the Bucs rank 18th nationally in the FCS in total defense (314.0) and 25th in total offense (414.8) – both of which put ETSU second in the Southern Conference.

Coach Lamb was hired as the 20th head coach in program history back on Nov. 27, 2023. Prior to ETSU, Coach Lamb spent the last four seasons as the head coach at Gardner-Webb where he led the Runnin’ Bulldogs to back-to-back conference championships and FCS Playoff appearances.
