ETSU to Host Wake Forest in Charity Men’s Basketball Game

-

East Tennessee State University men’s basketball will host a high-profile, one-night-only charity exhibition game sponsored by Johnson City Honda against Wake Forest University on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. at Freedom Hall. A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit Finnegan’s Challenge and the Uncommon Grit Foundation.

The matchup will mark the return of former ETSU head coach Steve Forbes, who now leads the Wake Forest program. Tickets for the game are not included in ETSU’s 2025-26 season ticket package and must be purchased separately at ETSUtickets.com or by calling 423-439-3878. Season ticket holders will have the ability to purchase their same seats they have for season tickets by visiting etsutickets.com or by calling 423-439-3878 and renewing the offer.

“We are honored to be a part of this special event,” said Joe Trujillo, Owner of Johnson City Honda. “Supporting our community and these incredible organizations aligns with our values, and we’re proud to contribute to such a meaningful cause.”

ETSU will also host An Evening with Coach Forbes at the Martin Center on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. The event will feature Coach Forbes and special guests from college basketball and beyond. Tickets are $30 for an individual and $50 for couples and the event will feature an open bar with beer and wine. Tickets for that event can be purchased at ETSUtickets.com or by calling 423-439-3878.

Forbes served as ETSU’s head coach from 2015–2020, leading the Bucs to a Southern Conference championship and a 30-win season in his final year. His return adds a meaningful layer to a game that already holds significance for both programs.

“We’re honored to welcome Coach Forbes and Wake Forest back to Johnson City for a special cause,” said ETSU Director of Athletics Dr. Richard Sander. “Coach Forbes played an important role in ETSU’s story, and we’re proud to partner with him and Wake Forest to support a meaningful initiative.”

The event is expected to draw a large crowd, and fans are encouraged to purchase tickets early.
