Will Sexton had a big night as the Rangers held on the closing stages to take the win over a county rival.
After the Warriors took a 14-6 lead in the first quarter, the Rangers quickly closed the gap but trailed 36-29 at the half.
Unaka took the momentum to take the lead in the third quarter and then held on in the final minutes.
Sexton finished with 34 points to lead all scorers. Ryan Johnson and Dylan Whitehead had 17 and 14 points, respectively.
Happy Valley’s Blake Young finished with 16 points. Dylan Willis ended the night with 15 points, while Andrew Clawson and Luke Roberts added eight points to the Warrior cause.
For the game, the Warriors saw all five starters foul out in the game, and the Rangers had a 47-7 free-throw discrepancy.
Unicoi County 71, Cloudland 50
The ‘Landers were unable to battle back from an early deficit in the regular-season finale.
Unicoi jumped out to a 19-6 lead after eight minutes of play. Cloudland got the offense settled in the second half, but was unable to trim into the Blue Devil lead.
Cloudland continued to battle in the second half but was unable to close the gap.
Elijah Blair led the ‘Landers with 14 points. Bentley Gilbert and Hunter Shell had nine and six points, apiece.
