Friday Girls’ Basketball Roundup: Lady Warriors dispatch Unaka for Senior Night

Happy Valley 58, Unaka 42
Happy Valley celebrated Senior Night in style as the Lady Warriors used a methodical attack to slowly pull away from the Lady Rangers.

In the first quarter, Happy Valley jumped out to a 10-4 lead as they held the Lady Rangers without a field goal in the quarter. Lyndie Ramsey and company got the offense going in the second quarter, but a trio of 3-pointers from Kadie Bailey, Emma Blevins and Gabby Wood helped the Lady Warriors maintain a 20-13 advantage at the half.

Happy Valley was able to get a little more breathing room in the third quarter as Shayln Whitson scored seven points in the quarter as the Lady Warriors doubled up Unaka in the frame. Key shots from Unaka’s Jada Whitehead, Mckenzie Depew and Ramsey tried to jumpstart a Unaka rally, but the Lady Warriors were able to sniff out any run.

Whitson finished with 15 points to pace HV, while Bailey scored nine points. Senior Jaiden Clark added seven points.

Unaka was paced by Ramsey’s 17 points. Depew finished with 11 points.

Cloudland 60, Unicoi County 27
The Lady ‘Landers jumped out early and never looked back on the road Friday night.

Cloudland saw Heaven Caraway scored eight points in the first eight minutes to push CHS to a 21-9 lead. In the second quarter, six Lady ‘Landers reached the scorebook as the balanced attack pushed the CHS lead to 37-19 at the break.

The second half saw Cloudland leave no doubt as they allowed just eight total points in the final two quarters.

Jasmine Birchfield had 13 points to pace Cloudland, while the dup of Mandy Benfield and Caraway had 12 points apiece. Gracie Freeman scored seven points.
