Friday Round-up: Bulldogs, Lady Bulldogs Fall In Close Battles, Lady ‘Landers Storm Past UH

University High 52, Cloudland 37
The ‘Landers were unable to hold off a second-half rally from the Bucs.

Nick Caraway provided an early spark for the ‘Landers as the senior scored 9 points in the opening eight minutes to help Cloudland take a 14-12 lead after a quarter of play.

In the second quarter, Uriah Jarrett had the hot hand as he scored 11 points in the frame and Cloudland led 28-23 at the break.

University High, however, outscored the ‘Landers 18-5 in the third quarter to take the lead. Cloudland continued to fight but was unable to rally back.

Caraway had 15 points to pace CHS, while Jarrett had 14 points.

Gate City (Va.) 60, Hampton 58
The Bulldogs came up short on Friday night.

Neither team was able to get any separation from the other as it was a back-and-forth battle.

The teams ended the first quarter tied at 18-18, and the Bulldogs used a balanced effort to take a 32-28 lead into the half.

In the second half, it was much the same as the teams traded shots and Hampton led 48-45 after three complete. The Bulldogs pushed the lead to six points in the opening minutes of the quarter, but Gate City used an 11-2 run to take the lead.

The Bulldogs answered the Blue Devil run and the game entered the final minute tied. Gate City scored with nine seconds left, and Hampton saw a last-second shot unable to fall.

Tuff Robinson led Hampton with 18 points. Chase Davenport scored nine points, while Jayden Nave finished with eight points. Ezra Tolley and Jackson Smith scored six points apiece.

Girls
Cloudland 65, University High 20
It was all Cloudland on Friday night.

The Lady ‘Landers jumped out to a 15-3 lead in the first eight minutes, and CHS outscored UH 19-5 in the second quarter to take full control.

Makinna Shell led Cloudland with 21 points, while Reagan Turbyfull had 15 points. Makenzie Street scored 13 points.

Gate City (Va.) 61, Hampton 55
The Lady Bulldogs were unable to get in front on Friday night.

Gate City jumped out to a 6-0 lead to open the game, Hampton was able to get things going but trailed 17-13 after eight complete quarters.

The Lady Blue Devils used a run to take a double-digit lead in the second quarter, but Hampton answered with an 8-0 run of their own to pull within a possession. GC held a 30-25 lead at the half.

In the second half, the Lady Bulldogs were able to get within a possession multiple times but were unable to get in front.

Faye Carrico had 15 points to lead Hampton, while Brea Hicks scored 14 points. Hannah Smith tossed in 11 points.
