Elizabethton 42, Unicoi County 39 (girls)
The Lady Cyclones held on to pick up a Three Rivers win on Friday night.
The conference clash was a battle from the onset with Torrie Roberts scoring seven points in the opening quarter to push EHS to a 16-13 lead after a quarter of play.
The Lady Cyclone defense limited Unicoi to just four points in the second quarter as EHS pushed the lead to 24-17 at the half.
Elizabethton was able to maintain the lead for most of the third quarter, but Unicoi cutting into the lead in the final minutes.
The Lady Cyclone defense, however, rose to the occasion once again and prevented Unicoi from getting a potential game-tying shot off in the closing seconds.
Morgan Headrick and Roberts had 12 points apiece, while Lina Lyon added seven points to the Lady Cyclone cause. Mckendra Norris scored five points in the win.
North Greene 51, Cloudland 50 (girls)
The Lady ‘Landers came out on the wrong side of a heartbreaker.
Cloudland was unable to score on the game’s final possession after clawing back into the game in Baileyton.
The Lady ‘Landers battled back from an early deficit as NG led 14-7 after a stanza of play. CHS evened the score in the second quarter as the teams went to the half tied at 27.
Cloudland took a slim lead in the third quarter, and the teams traded shots in the final eight minutes.
Mandy Benfield led the way with 12 points, while Saharra McKinney added 11 points to the Cloudland total. Jasmine Birchfield added nine points.
South Greene 69, Unaka 47 (girls)
The Lady Rangers were unable to overcome a hot Lady Rebel offense Friday night.
Unaka saw Lyndie Ramsey open the game with 10 points in the first quarter, but South Greene used a balanced attack to take a 20-10 lead into the second quarter. In the second stanza, Unaka was limited to just nine points while SG was able to score 26 points in the frame.
The Lady Rangers continued to battle but was unable to make a run in the second half.
Ramsey scored 30 points to lead the way. Tara Whitehead and Macy Ensor had five points each.
Elizabethton 73, Unicoi County 63 (boys)
The Cyclones took care of business in the fourth quarter.
Jake Roberts scored 10 points in the final quarter as Elizabethton outscored the Blue Devils 24-15.
It was a tight battle from the opening tip-off.
The teams traded shots in the opening half as UC led 19-17 after a quarter of play and 33-32 at the half.
Roberts and company took a lead into the final quarter after a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from Roberts. Elizabethton slowly pulled away in the final quarter to take the Three Rivers win.
Roberts had an impressive 29 point showing for Elizabethton. William Willocks had 16 points.
North Greene 82, Cloudland 60 (boys)
The ‘Landers were unable to come out on top on the road Friday night.
Cloudland and North Greene had a tight battle in the first half as the Huskies held a five-point advantage after a quarter of play. The ‘Landers, however, trimmed the advantage to trail by three points at the half.
NG was able to extend the lead in the third back to five points before taking control in the final quarter by outscoring Cloudland 31-17 in the final eight minutes.
Caleb Sluder had 21 points to lead the way for Cloudland. Bentley Gilbert had 11 points, while Victor Hicks added nine points.
Dylan Shell and Elijah Blair had seven points apiece.
