The Rangers came up heartbreakingly short in a District 1-A tilt.
John Hardin paced Unaka with 23 points, while Aiden Walsh scored 12 points. Mason Wilson added nine points.
Andrew Cole tallied 32 points to lead University High, while Brady Weems added 17 points.
North Greene 66, Cloudland 41
The ‘Landers were unable to keep pace with North Greene on Friday night.
The Huskies jumped out to a 13-7 lead, and NG pushed the advantage to 32-19 at the half.
Cloudland continued to fight in the second half. However, CHS was unable to rally.
Uriah Jarrett led the ‘Landers with 19 points. Gavyn Shell scored eight points, while Nick Caraway tallied six points. Lance Carrico and Thomas Darnell scored 16 and 12 points, respectively.
Girls
Unaka 66, University High 39
It was all Lady Rangers on Friday night.
Unaka jumped out to an 18-4 lead in the opening quarter behind 11 points from Michelle Shields, and the Lady Rangers continued to have the momentum in the second as UHS held a 42-15 lead at the half.
From there, Unaka was able to cruise to the win.
Shields had 24 points to pace the Lady Rangers. Ari Sutherland finished with 11 points. Kathlyn Dugger and Lauren Lund scored eight points apiece, while Kalli Shepard scored six points.
Emma Chandley led UH with 23 points.
North Greene 51, Cloudland 47
A Lady ‘Lander rally came up short on the road Friday night.
After the Lady Huskies held a slim 14-9 lead after a quarter of play, a back-and-forth second quarter saw Cloudland face a 28-21 deficit at the half. North Greene outscored Cloudland 11-6 in the third to take a 39-27 lead into the final quarter.
The Lady ‘Landers, however, didn’t go quietly. CHS slowly chipped into the lead with a 14-3 run to pull within five points with two minutes to play. However,
CHS was unable to get closer in the closing minutes despite a hard-fought effort.
Makinna Shell scored 17 points to lead Cloudland, while Makenzie Street had 12 points. Regan Blair scored eight points. Savannah McCoury added six points.
Hannah Miller led North Greene with 26 points.
