Friday Roundup: Lady Rangers Rally Past North Greene; HV Drops Two At West Greene

Unaka 57, North Greene 53 (girls)
The Lady Rangers rallied for a key District 1-A win on Friday night as Michelle Shields hit a layup with 29 seconds remaining to lift Unaka to the win.

After North Greene used a 12-2 run to take a 19-15 lead after the first quarter, the Lady Huskies pushed the lead to 33-21 at the break.

Unaka, however, battled back with a 7-0 run to open the third quarter, and UHS trimmed the deficit to three points after three complete quarters.

The fourth quarter saw North Greene push the lead back to seven points, but Brooklyn Campbell sparked a 9-0 run to give Unaka the lead. The teams traded shots in the final minutes, setting up the final minute.

Shields led Unaka with 26 points, while Emma Whitaker had 15 points. Campbell scored seven points.

Tralyn Southerland led North Greene with 25 points. Eva Leonard had 11 points.

Unaka 65, North Greene 53 (boys)
The Rangers kept North Greene at bay on Friday night.

Unaka jumped out to an 11-2 lead to open the game before NG roared back to tie the game at 11-11 before UHS took a 13-11 lead into the second. The teams traded shots in the second quarter before the Rangers took a 27-23 advantage into the half.

The Rangers took over in the third as Unaka used a run to take a 42-28 lead midway through the third quarter. North Greene, however, battled back to close within four points, but Unaka used a quick run in the fourth to pull away for the win.

John Hardin had 27 points to lead Unaka. Aiden Walsh scored 16 points. Zack Wallin and Austin Lambert had seven points apiece.

West Greene 38, Happy Valley 31 (girls)
The Lady Warriors came up short on Friday night.

West Greene jumped out to a 14-6 lead in the first quarter and maintained a 24-13 advantage at the half.

Happy Valley, however, battled back in the second half. However, they were unable to rally past WG despite outscoring them 7-2 in the final quarter.

West Greene 65, Happy Valley 53 (boys)
The Warriors were unable to answer a second-quarter run by the Buffaloes.

After HV held a 15-13 lead after a quarter of play, West Greene used a 16-6 run to end the first half to take a 31-23 lead into the half.

The Warriors battled back in the third with a 7-0 run to close within one, but West Greene used an 11-0 run to extend the advantage.

Lane Parker had 14 points to lead Happy Valley. Zack Rose added 10 points, while Jace Winegar. scored eight points.

Ayden Lamons and Elijah Williams recorded 20 points apiece to pace West Greene.
