Friday’s Round-up: Trio of Carter County Teams Win At HV Classic

Happy Valley 45, Cedarview 32
The Lady Warriors pulled away in the final stanza to take a win on the second day of the HV Classic on Warrior Hill.

After holding a 28-26 lead after three complete quarters, HV limited Cedarview to just six points in the final quarter to take the win.

Marcida Moore had 14 points to lead the way, while Kayla Parker finished with 13 points. Cayden Anderson added nine points.

Volunteer 56, Hampton 48
The Lady Bulldogs kept battling but were unable to rally in the second half.
Volunteer held a 15-9 lead after one and extended the lead to 31-20 at the half.

HHS trimmed the lead back to single digits in the third but was unable to continue the rally in the closing minutes.

Taylor Berry had 14 points for Hampton. Pipper Helle added 11 points, while Macy Henry added nine points.

Cloudland 62, Tri-Cities Christian 22
The Lady ‘Landers rolled to another win on Friday in the HV Classic.

Cloudland took a 17-8 lead after a quarter of play and pulled away in the second to take a 30-10 advantage into the half. From there, it was all CHS.

Ryan Turbyfill led the way with 18 points for Cloudland, while Regan Blair finished with 15 points. Izabella Christman added 11 points.

Unaka 42, Twin Springs (Va.) 32
Unaka pulled away late to take a win on Friday.

After the Lady Rangers led 7-3 after a quarter of play, Unaka extended the lead to 17-7 at the break. Twin Springs closed the gap to just two points by the end of the third quarter, but Unaka was able to secure the win with a strong fourth quarter.

Katlyn Dugger and Lauren Lund tallied 12 points for Unaka, while Keyona Hague scored nine points.

Boys
Grainger 59, Elizabethton 57
The Cyclones dropped a hard-fought battle at Grainger on Friday night.

The back-and-forth battle saw Grainger hit a pair of free throws with 0.1 seconds left to take the win.

Andrew Barnett had 18 points to lead the way for EHS, while Jackson Hobbs finished with a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds. Will Churchill added 10 points.

Sullivan East 71, Unaka 35
The Rangers were unable to keep up with a hot-shooting Sullivan East squad on Friday.

After falling behind 20-8 in the first half, the Rangers used a run to close back within four points. However, East used a run right before the half to take control.

Marcus Shomaker had nine points to lead Unaka, while John Hardin had seven points.

Drake Fisher led Sullivan East with 24 points.

Chuckey-Doak 75, Happy Valley 49
The Warriors were unable to answer a strong second quarter by the Black Knights.

The game was tied 12-12 after a quarter of play, and Chuckey-Doak pushed the lead to 12 points by the half. Happy Valley continued to battle but was unable to rally in the second half.

Dylan Furr led HV with 17 points, while Dorian Jackson added 10 points. AJ Campbell and Austin Nickles scored nine points apiece.
