Hampton found the right note in the Murphy Center.

The Lady Bulldogs never trailed and held off Huntingdon for a 37-29 victory in the Class A Quarterfinals.

With the win, Hampton advances to the Class A Semifinals against Clarkrange on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Offense was hard to come by in the opening quarter.

Alexus Grubbs hit a lay-up to open the scoring two minutes into the game, and Megan Garland added another bucket. After Huntingdon got on the board with a pair of free throws from Jesica Keith, Kenzie Hill pushed the Hampton lead to 6-2 with just over a minute to play. The Lady Bulldogs countered another pair of free throws with a Shy Tuelle free throw and bucket from Garland to take a 9-4 lead into the second quarter.

Taylor Smith opened the second quarter scoring with back-to-back buckets in a 10-second span. Garland answered for Hampton at the midpoint of the period. After Tuelle added a free throw, Bree Hoyle knocked down a pair in the closing seconds as Hampton held a 14-8 lead at the half.

Hampton pushed the lead to nine points in the opening minutes of the second half as Tuelle scored five points and Grubbs added a bucket. The Mustangs battled back to tie the game at 25-25 with 2:04 left in the quarter.

Garland added back-to-back baskets to send Hampton into the final eight minutes with a 29-25 lead.

A quick Garland basket gave Hampton a 6-point lead. Huntingdon cut the lead to 33-29 with 3:38 to play. The Hampton defense turned up the pressure as that would be the last Mustang basket.

Grubb secured the game with a lay-up and pair of free throws as the Lady Bulldogs held on to move into the semifinals.

Garland had 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Lady Bulldogs, while Grubbs had 10 points. Tuelle tallied seven points and nine rebounds.

Keith scored 14 points to lead Huntingdon.

As a team, Hampton shot 14-of-38 from the field while the Mustang went 10-of-43.
