Hampton cruises past Cosby

Hampton ended the regular season on a high note.

The Bulldogs rolled to a 46-6 victory over Cosby on the road in Region 1-2A action. With the win, Hampton improves to 8-1 on the year.

The Bulldogs will open the Class 2A playoffs at JC Campbell Stadium against Oneida next Friday night.


Against Cosby, it was all Hampton from the start.

Aidan Vines opened the scoring with a three-yard run just over three minutes into the game, and Michael Harrison added the extra point to give HHS a 7-0 lead. On the next Hampton drive, Conor Jones hit Blake Peavy for a 22-yard touchdown as the Bulldogs took a two-score lead midway through the quarter.

Dylan Trivett got in the scoring act for Hampton with just over four minutes to play as he caught a 36-yard touchdown pass from Jones. Jones added two more scores in the first quarter – a 43-yard touchdown run and a 14-yard touchdown run both by Jones – as

Hampton took a 39-0 lead into the second quarter and the half.

After Cosby scored on an 89-yard kickoff return to get on the board, Hampton answered as Trivett scored on a 20-yard run to account for the scoring.

Jones finished with three carries for 70 yards while going 7-of-9 passing for 125 yards. Trivett had two carries for 37 yards while added 47 receiving yards on two catches.

Morgan Lyons and Peavy added 25 and 22 receiving yards, respectively.

As a unit, the Hampton offense rolled to 310 yards, while the Bulldog defense held Cosby to -6 offensive yards in the game.
