Hampton picks up two district wins

Hampton picked up a pair of district wins on Friday night.

The Bulldogs edged ahead in the fourth for a 66-56 victory over University High, while the Lady Bulldogs cruised to a 66-31 win over the Lady Bucs.


In the boys’ game, Hampton found themselves in an early hole as they trailed 13-9 after eight minutes of play. Dru Owens and company outscored UH 15-9 in the second quarter to take a 24-22 lead. Owens had five points in the second stanza with Gavin Hardin adding four points.

In the third quarter, Hampton was able to add three points to their lead as Jordan Bentley helped keep the offense hot with eight points in the period. Hampton secured the game in the final quarter by going 13-of-17 from the free throw line.

Owens had a game-high 21 points for Hampton. Jaydon Livingstone tallied 13 points, while Hardin ended the game with 12 points. Bentley added 10 points.

In the girls’ game, it was all Hampton from the opening tip.

The Lady Bulldogs raced out to a 26-5 lead in the first quarter, and never looked back. Hampton maintained a 41-19 advantage at the half.

Shy Tuelle had 23 points to lead Hampton. Stephanie Campbell had 12 points, while Brooke Hughes tallied nine points. Kinzey Hill finished with seven points.
