Hampton kept on fighting in the District 1-A tournament.
The Bulldogs rallied from a three-run deficit to take an 8-5 victory over University High in an elimination game. With the win, Hampton moved to the District 1-A Championship game on Thursday.
Hampton took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when senior Wyatt Lyons crossed home plate, but UH answered in the bottom of the second with a run to tie the game. The Bucs picked up a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third, but Hampton countered in the home side of the fourth as Jacob Byrd crossed home plate.
With two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth, University High held a 5-2 lead headed to the sixth.
The Bulldogs, however, answered with a vengeance as Dalton Blair scored on a Lyons sacrifice fly and David Fleenor hit a two-run double to tie the game. In the seventh, UH loaded the bases, but the Bulldogs got out of the jam to force extra innings.
Hampton took control in the top of the eighth with three runs. The Bucs got a runner aboard, but the Bulldogs held strong to take the win.
Byrd went 2-for-3, while Gavin Hardin and Potter had two hits apiece.
