After a sluggish start, Hampton took care of business on Stony Creek on Thursday night.

The Bulldogs stormed to a 61-14 victory over Unaka in non-conference action. With the win, Hampton improves to 4-5 overall while Unaka falls to 2-7 on the season.

In the opening quarter, it was a tight battle.

Macon Barden capped off a methodical drive with a 16-yard touchdown to take an early 6-0 lead. Unaka, however, answered as Reid Taylor took the pitch and then found Devon Jarrett for a halfback pass that covered 67 yards to answer and tie the game.

Neither team was able to get back onto the board until late in the quarter when Barden scored his second touchdown of the night with a 3-yard touchdown run to give Hampton a 14-6 lead going to the second quarter.

The Bulldogs took full control in the second quarter.

Lane Potter opened the quarter by scoring on a 29-yard run – a touchdown that was set-up by a lengthy punt return by Conor Jones. On the ensuing Hampton drive, Barden completed the hat trick with his third touchdown – this one from a yard out.

Manpreet Kohli and Potter added rushing touchdowns for the Bulldogs, and Alex Hardin hit Jonah Jones for a 46-yard touchdown in the closing seconds the half to give HHS a 48-6 advantage.

In the third quarter, Morgan Lyons returned a blocked punt for a score to add to the Hampton lead. John Ramsey got the Unaka offense moving as he capped off an impressive drive with a two-yard run. Bryson Street caught the conversion pass from Ramsey to cap the Unaka scoring.

Hampton added a final touchdown in the fourth as Kohl scored on an 11-yard run.

The Bulldogs are set to travel to Cosby next Friday to close out the regular season, while Unaka will wrap up the 2018 season at Sunbright.
