Hampton opened the year with two wins over a county foe.
The Lady Bulldogs picked up a 44-36 win over Cloudland on Thursday evening, while the Hampton boys took an 83-38 victory over the ‘Landers.
In the girls’ game, it was a battle.
Hampton jumped out to a 19-6 lead early in the second quarter. Cloudland, however, battled back with an 8-0 run to close the half to trim the lead to 25-18 at the break.
The teams continued to trade shots in the third quarter as CHS stayed within striking distance. The Lady Bulldogs led 31-25 after three complete quarters.
In the fourth quarter, Hampton was able to hold off CHS to secure the win.
Piper Helle had 14 points to lead all scorers, while Brea Hicks scored 10 points for the Lady Bulldogs. Hannah Smith added seven points.
Regan Blair had 11 points to lead Cloudland. Abriella Jones added eight points, while Makinna Shell scored seven points.
In the boys’ game, Hampton jumped out quickly.
After the teams traded points to open the game, the Bulldogs used a quick run to take a 29-9 lead into the second quarter.
From there, Hampton was able to control the game despite a hard-fought effort from the ‘Landers.
Bryce Fagan had 16 points for Hampton, while Chase Davenport had 14 points. Tyler Blevins added nine points.
Uriah Jarrett scored 10 points to pace CHS. Bryce Birchfield and Nick Caraway had nine and eight points, respectively, while Cass Turbyfill scored seven points.
