Hampton Upends Cosby To Advance

The Lady Bulldogs picked up an upset with a statement win.

Hampton knocked off the No. 1 seed from District 2-A with a 55-38 victory over Cosby on Friday night on the road in the Region 1-A quarterfinals.

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs advanced to the Region 1-A semifinals on Monday where they will take on Cloudland.

The teams had a back-and-forth battle to open the game as Cosby held a slim 11-10 lead after eight minutes of play.

The Lady Bulldogs doubled up the Lady Eagles in the second quarter as Taylor Berry scored five points in the frame to power Hampton to a 22-17 halftime lead.

In the second half, Hampton started to pull away.

Berry continued to have the hot hand as she scored eight points in the third quarter, while Linsey Jenkins tallied four points in the frame. That helped Hampton to outscore Cosby 17-10 to take a 39-29 advantage after three complete quarters.

HHS kept Cosby at bay in the fourth to secure the win.

Berry led Hampton with 15 points, while Piper Helle had 10 points. Macy Henry scored nine points.

Jenkins and Madi McClain had eight and seven points, respectively.

Cosby’s Shylee Shelton led all scorers with 20 points.
