The Happy Valley High School Golf program is once again hosting the 1913 Invitational to help start the prep season on Monday, July 21.
The event, going into the fourth year, has drawn state championship caliber programs from across the state to the Johnson City Country Club to help start the season.
Local programs scheduled to participate including host Happy Valley, Cherokee, Daniel Boone, David Crockett, Dobyns-Bennett, Chuckey-Doak, Greeneville, Providence Academy, Sullivan East, Tennessee, Tri-Cities Christian, West Ridge and Sullivan East.
The 18-program field at the moment includes programs from Division I and Division II in both A and AA classifications as the mix allows programs to see different players from across the state that would not normally happen. Programs such as Apolistic Christian (Maryville), Kingston, Morristown West, Powell and Providence Christian (Murfreesboro) are the teams that the local schools will see.
Numerous players have inked with college golf programs that started their season with the 1913 Invitational including a player last year who signed with the University of Tennessee. Other players from the 1913 Invitational have inked college scholarships with NCAA Division II, NAIA and NJCAA schools.
The previous year’s field saw 20% of the golfers reach a TSSAA State Championship and other programs reached their respective TSSAA Region event including the Happy Valley girls’ team that finished fourth at that tournament with Cayden Anderson finishing tied for fourth.
