Happy Valley, Hampton Baseball Sees Season End In Three Rivers Tournament

Hampton and Happy Valley saw their respective seasons come to an end in the Three Rivers Baseball Tournament on Thursday afternoon.

Happy Valley fell 6-3 to Johnson County, while the Bulldogs fell 11-0 to South Greene in Thursday’s elimination game action.

The Warriors looked poised to rally in the sixth but came up short.

After HV was unable to take advantage of baserunners, the Longhorns scored a run in the first and two more in the second to take a 3-0 lead. Johnson County plated single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth to take a 6-0 lead.

Happy Valley, however, didn’t go quietly.

Ty Johnson and Parker Williams got on base to open the top of the sixth, before the Longhorns recorded two outs.

Lane Parker knocked in two runs with a single to center field, and Jamie Esterline hit a single that allowed a run to score as HV cut the deficit in half. The Warriors were unable to extend the inning as they trailed 6-3 after six.

Drew Blevins opened the seventh with a single, but HV was unable to rally in the final frame.

Blevins finished 2-for-3, while Parker and Esterline each had a hit and an RBI. Matthew Murray and Williams each added a hit.

Grady Goulds allowed just one earned run on four hits with six strikeouts.

South Greene 11, Hampton 0
For Hampton, the Bulldogs had to battle from an early deficit.

South Greene jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first and extended the lead to 8-0 in the home side of the third.

Hampton kept battling but was unable to rally as Elisha Henson, Bryce Fagan and Cash Royston each had a two-out single in the top of the fourth to load the bases, but HHS was unable to plate the runs.

Cade Nelson went 2-for-3 to lead the Bulldogs, while Henson, Fagan, and Royston each had a hit.

Royston struck out four batters on the mound in 2.2 innings of work.

South Greene saw Seth Franklin go 2-for-3 with three RBI.
