The Hampton football team picked up a key Region 1-2A victory on Friday night.

The Bulldogs pulled away in the second half as they rolled to a 49-21 victory over Sullivan North in Kingsport behind a big night from Conor Jones. With the win, Hampton improves to 1-1 in region action and 4-2 overall.


Hampton jumped out early.

Jones found Gage Chambers for a 43-yard touchdown late in the first quarter to give HHS a 6-0 advantage. The Bulldogs got back on the board midway through the second quarter as Jones scored on a 23-yard run and maintained a 14-0 advantage.

The Raiders were able to get on the board in the closing minutes of the half, but Hampton maintained a 14-8 lead at the break.

In the third quarter, Hampton took full control.

Jones found Chambers for a 47-yard touchdown, and Matt Hughes added a short touchdown to push the lead out. Macon Barden added a touchdown of his own as Hampton held a 36-21 lead going to the final stanza.

Jones opened the scoring in the final quarter to secure the win for Hampton.

The sophomore signal called ended then name 8-of-13 passing for 234 yards and added 58 yards on the ground. Chambers had 122 yards on four catches with two touchdowns.

The Bulldogs are set to travel to Cloudland for a non conference tilt next Friday.
